Recommended Daytrip: Tulum & Cenote Jardin del Eden

As many of our guests continuously ask us; What should we do(?) We’ve decided to put together this little series of recommended daytrips and activities for all our guests. Even if you’re not staying with us, feel free to try them out, they’re cheap, easy to do and have as much variety as possible (in as little time as possible) for as cheap as possible (we’re budget..and so are our recommendations!).

This daytrip is perfect for the one who only has a day to spare with a rental car, and wants to experience the most that the Riviera Maya has to offer.

    • Start your day early!! Having your rental car ready by 8am is a must, head southbound on the highway towards Tulum, it shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes with light morning traffic. While on your way, keep an eye out for the locations of Akumal (you’ll be passing under a pedestrian bridge) and also for Cenote Jardin del Eden (on your right hand side after passing akumal, coming from playa del carmen.
    • When arriving in Tulum, take a left at the entrance of the archeological ruins. This is your first stop.
    • Take a few hours to relax, walk around in the fresh morning air and look at the beautiful ocean and the castle. The government has placed informative plaques throghout the area in case you’re unable to find a guide.

    • At 11am, we recommend you to jet off further south along the beach, head towards one of the following:
      • Be Tulum: Quite upscale, expensive but definitely a culinary experience worth trying. One of the best hotels in tulum with an equally excellent restaurant.

      • Zebra Tulum: Slowfood cuisine goes hand in hand with the laid back atmosphere of tulum. Well priced and charming layout makes it perfect for some beach lounging.
      • (of course, you can pick any place you’d like along the way, these are just our personal recommendations)

    • 2pm, and after a few hours in the sun, its perfect time to head back towards the cenotes. Find your way to Cenote Jardin del Eden along the highway (try to remember the location on your way towards Tulum in the morning). Entrance shouldn’t be more than 5O mxn per person, but seasonal variations may occur. You can rent snorkeling equipment here, and its highly recommended. Jump in and soak up all what the mayans have worshipped for so long. The water is cold, and fresh, a nice change from the salty caribbean!
    • If you have any energy left… Akumal could be a daytrip in itself, but if you have the time and energy, take a few hours after you’re done at Jardin del Eden stopping by here and snorkeling in the bay. Odds are very high you’ll run into turtles, stingrays, mantarays, barracudas, groupers and much more, just a quick swim off the beach.
    • After this, odds are high you’re tired and your camera full, head back to the maya bric to your newly cleaned room and fresh towels!
